The Salon

I love getting my hair done. The last time I had my natural haircolor was probably eighth grade; since then I've had blonde hair, red, hot pink streaks, blue streaks, green streaks that were supposed to be blue streaks....short hair, long hair, funky hair, classy hair...you name it. I love walking into the salon, with its scents of rosemary mint shampoo and flowery styling products. I'll sit down in the chair and look at myself in the mirror, trying to imagine who I'm about to become.

The outside world falls away, time ceases to matter, and I'm cocooned in a place of warm golden light and beautiful things. Hours later I emerge, transformed.

This is how I feel about revisions. When I'm really working - when the story has sucked me in - I go to a place outside of time, insulated in the smells and colors and sounds coming alive on the page. I am my main character, sharing her journey, and when I reach the end, blinking back into the light of "real" life, I realize...

She is not the only one who has changed.

In honor of her, and to celebrate one of my best friends' weddings this weekend...

I am transformed! :-)

I haven't done an Awkward Picture Day in a while...so here are a couple funny shots of THE KIDS who, by the way, are SO happy to have MAJOR HOTSAUCE home. As am I. :-)

Get Down With Your Bad Self

I'm missing MAJOR HOTSAUCE a lot today, so...lucky him...I've decided to feature him in this week's Awkward Picture Day. Given his extreme faith in his own super coolness, he's not one to shy away from the camera. Or censor himself.

This gem was taken at something called a Beer Fest. Note the super cool sunglasses and the super cool dance moves. That's his brother he's jamming with...and yes, this dance has a name. I can't recall it off-hand, but I'll ask MAJOR HOTSAUCE. I'm sure he can enlighten us. Oh, and I suppose I should mention...there was no actual MUSIC playing. You know, in case you were wondering.

You know that picture where Albert Einstein is sticking out his tongue? It's gotta be one of the most popular college dorm posters EVER... Oh, yeah. This one...

So, okay...awkward....I totally have my own version of this picture.

Pretty confident that my version is scarier. I mean, I might not have the crazy eyes, but crazy arms? Craziness in general? CHECK! (Too bad I don't have Mr. Einstein's crazy brilliant brain!)
